Another language week finishes, Tokelau this week. A beautiful language and culture, in which we luckily have students who are of Tokelau descent.
MPP (Ministry of Pacific Peoples) is the organisation that leads these weeks and promotes these beautiful languages. Not too long ago, both MPP and CIDANZ (Cook Islands Development Agency in New Zealand) supported a project for Kuki Learning (a small group of three of us, Charlie, Tom and myself, haha) to help promote the Cook Islands’ 60th anniversary, Te Maeva Nui, and Cook Islands Language Week through social media. I went with Charlie Charlie to Rarotonga as his cameraman while he interviewed people and shared and taught about the Cook Islands’ culture and language. From this work, our Cook Islands language flipbook, and other work Charlie and Tom do, we won the Education Award at the Tū Rangatira Awards in Auckland a few weeks back. Super cool! It was great fun to get him in to open our Cultural Festival with a pe’e, teaching the children an opening song and hymn, and the incredible dance. Well done to our ‘Saints of the Week’ and those smashing second language use (Māori/Samoan). The students who have been acting like saints over the last week joined me for morning tea today. Awesome job!
ALL SAINTS’ DAY / TE RĀ O KĀ HATO KATOAToday St Anne’s school celebrated All Saints Day (a day early). It was amazing to see so many dedicated students in wonderful costumes to honour their favourite saints. We greatly appreciate the hard work that has gone into these costumes.
All Saints Day is a reminder for us as Catholics to venerate all saints in heaven. Throughout the course of humanity, there have been countless saints. Today, we honour all of them, even the nameless saints who time and history have forgotten.
Along with those forgotten saints, let us also remember those we know of and are canonised by the Church and the lessons they can teach us about Holiness:
-Remember to love the little things like Saint Therese of Lisieux
-Finding God by helping the poor like Saint Vincent de Paul
-The importance of contemplative study like Saint Dominic

SEARCHING THE SHORELINE / RAPU I TE TAKUTAI
The junior students of St Anne’s were ‘Searching the Shoreline’ this week. Finding the things that should be there and the things that shouldn’t. Thanks to the CCC team at Learning Through Action, helpers on the day, and of course, our teachers who made this experience happen for our children.

MORNING MOMENTUM / ĀKA ATA
We’re excited to announce that Tamai Sports will be running an initiative called ‘Morning Momentum’ for our students this term. These morning sessions are all about getting our tamariki moving, giving them a taste of summer sports, and starting the day in a fun, positive way.
Students will enjoy three weeks of energetic morning sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8:30 am to 9 am, beginning Tuesday 11 November.
The Tamai Sport coaches will run activities in touch, football, and cricket, designed so students can join in easily, whether they’re there for the whole session or just popping in for a go!
A huge thank you to Kyla and the Tamai Sports team for continuing to support our school and keeping our tamariki active and engaged.
OUR AMAZING STUDENTS / KĀ ĀKOKA MĪHARO
We love sharing the success of our students outside as well as inside school. He is a picture of Paula De Leon, who competed in the JKA South Island Championship last Sunday 26th October 26, alongside her sister Fiona and Michelle McIntyre.
Paula won First Place in Kata and Third Place in Kumite for the Blue/Purple Belt.
Well done to all three of them!!!

The burn time is now 29 minutes. Students need hats to play or learn outside. We are having a special on our hats in the office until they are gone, they are $5 if you need one. Please bring cash or do a bank deposit with your child’s name clearly there as a reference.
NOHO MAI, TĀKARO MAI / STAY AND PLAY
Every Wednesday afternoon from 3pm during Term 4 we have Stay and Play! This is going so well and children are loving it. For it to continue, one important rule must be followed, it is ABSOLUTELY COMPULSORY for an adult to supervise their children and ensure the students are participating properly and following the rules. Thank you for this!
