Fakamālo atu kia te koutou uma,
Tokelau greetings to you all.

We look forward to this week coming as it is Tokelau Language Week and the Tokelau language is beautiful. It has so many similarities to Samoan and Māori. Let’s greet each other with ‘Mālō nī’, and if you can, here’s a few more to try.
Io – Yes
Hēai – No
Fakamolemole – Please
Manuia te pō – Good night
Manuia te taeao – Good morning
Fakafetai – Thank you
Fakamalie atu – Sorry
Tulou – Excuse me
We hope our Liliana, who is of Tokelau descent, enjoys the week most of all.

URGENT NOTICE:
KAPA HAKA PRACTICE TUESDAY AND FRIDAY (LAST TWO PRACTICES BEFORE  THE BIG DAY) / PARAKITIHI MŌ TŪREI ME TE PARAIRE (E RUA E TOE ANA)

TUESDAY: After a walk through of the venue at Parakiore on Sunday with the kapa haka tutors and teachers, we are going to do an extra practice session on Tuesday. The stage is a bit bigger than we expected so we are going to adjust positioning. We will be training at Ngutuawa School (500 metres away) in their hall (due to the weather forecast). Please pack lots of food. It is an important day for all of our group to be there and get the set completely ready. School pick up and drop off is as normal as we will walk down as a group.
FRIDAY: We will do a dress rehearsal at school. Performing in the afternoon.

TE RANGAIHI (ALL WELCOME) / NAU MAI
This Saturday 31 October is the Te Rangaihi Kapa Haka regional competition! We have close to 40 students performing on Saturday. If we qualify, we will head to the North Island next year for Nationals. This is the first time a Catholic school has ever been invited to enter this competition in Christchurch, so we look forward to showing off our skills and faith. We have 100 prioritised seats for the immediate family of performers, but if you are interested in supporting, there are plenty of other seats there and we would love it if you came in support. See if it is something for your child in future years, or just to support those involved, as a family of the school, a board member, community member or as a parishioner. Come and cheer loudly for us.
Come for just us (don’t be late) or stay the whole time.
Venue: Parakiore
Opening/Whakatau: 8.30am
St Anne’s estimated performance time: 11.10am-11.35pm
Prize giving: 5pm

For performers and their families: Saturday, please be at school by 8am.
Girls – hair: half up and half down with the top half being a bun and split down the middle. Slick edges. Can wear earrings appropriate to kapa haka.
Boys-Black short shorts or underwear/skins (for under uniform). Taonga and earrings appropriate to kapa haka.
Bring drink bottles and food for Saturday so you don’t go onto the stage starving!
Any questions: mareta@stannes.co.nz

URGENT TOUCH UPDATE NOTICE
Uniform for years 1/2 team and years 3/4 team. White t-shirts (mainly white). If you can’t source for Tuesday, aim for next week. Years 5/6 – full PE uniform please!!!!
Those who have been around the school for a while know, for outside of school time sports, we run at a first in, first served basis for team entry. It is not who is the best or anything like that. Parents who offer to coach or be on the field help jump up to the top of the list as this is essential for us to run the teams.
Unfortunately, when the forms went out, they came back everywhere (to different teachers instead of the office), and it didn’t have this stated on them, nor the uniform. This is a learning from the organisation and won’t happen again. Next time, notices will come back via the Cookie Monster in the office and will be first in first served. Our year 3/4 team is far too big to continue. We are in discussion with Tamai for an extra team, but if that doesn’t work, here is the list of the first 10 students in (usually 9 but we couldn’t figure out who was the ninth or tenth, we know after and before). We will offer a guaranteed place for 2027 term 1 for those that have missed out or if one more wants to pull out of the team due to the size and we apologise deeply for this mistake. Tamai has confirmed a second team WON’T happen this week but may the next.

TE RĀ Ō TE HĀKINAKINA PŌRAKI / CRAZY SPORTS DAY
We did this for years and then with the busyness of school, sometimes missed it. But it was back for 2026 and was great to see so many creative ‘sports’ and to see our mixed age groupings helping each other and getting involved. Thanks to family members who also involved themselves, super cool.

PŌWHIRI MŌ KĀ WHĀNAU HŌU / NEW FAMILY WELCOME
Welcome to our new students and families! We hope you enjoyed last week’s welcome and know that now you are part of ‘Our Story’. We appreciate you all staying after the welcome to learn more about the school and ask questions. Great to see so many extended members of families joining in the celebration.  VJ (Samoan speaking), Jarren (Māori speaking) and Tu (Māori, Samoan, and English speaking) all smashing it on the paepae!
