Talofa lava!

What a fantastic Samoan Language week we had and it is all due to our ‘mountains’. A big fa’afetai to our leaders in this space, Mrs T, Miss Tiatia, Tumama, Kalameli, our aiga, Moa Yummy and Mapusaga. I hope you all used some language and your children had a great week learning and experiencing Samoan culture!
Highlights: Finauga performing at the Samoan Made Simple book launch at the Art Gallery on Wednesday, teaching in each class by our Samoan unit students (all week), the feast, the colour, the songs by each class performed on our Whare Tapere, and the gathering at Mapusaga on the Friday.

All the best to Dennis, our amazing kaiako whakangungu (teacher trainee) in Room 7. We wish him all the best in the rest of his training and in his career as a teacher!!! Thanks for what you did for St Anne’s e hoa! Nui te mihi, nui te aroha e rere atu ana ki a ‘koutou’ e tai!

KAUHOE ME TE HAUMARU WAI / SWIMMING AND WATER SAFETY
This is all done now. It was a nice mix of structured swimming lessons and water safety. You can’t teach someone to be a perfect swimmer in two weeks, but if children get a daily dose of practice and awareness, we hope they will continue their swimming journey outside of school hours and become super confident around water. Thanks to all families for drying togs and helping students to remember gear and to those who came to help. Much appreciated.

UKARITA TAPU / FIRST COMMUNION
We would like to congratulate those who made their First Communion on Sunday. It is a long journey and it has been great to see your progress. Thanks to all involved especially to our busy new entrant teacher, Jo Smart!

LAST DAY OF THE TERM / TE RĀ WHAKAMUTUKA O TE WĀHAKA KURA
As you read in a previous newsletter, Dean Isherwood, is being welcomed to his new school on Friday 3 July at 2pm. As many of the community want to be part of this, we are shutting school early (1pm) and would love for you to join us. Some children will be taken in our school vans to support Dean through singing at the pōwhiri (we will be in contact separately for this). Any families who would like to come and can, are welcome to. I just ask you let me or Shelley know so we can let them know the numbers (for chairs and food).

For those unable to be picked up at 1pm, we are requesting Kidsbase are open and start earlier than normal. We will have more information in the next newsletter.
This is an early ‘heads up’.

MATARIKI CELEBRATIONS / WHAKANUI MATARIKI
Pencil this in your diary, the school will celebrate this on Wednesday 1 July. It looks like some evening events and a sleepover for the bilingual Māori senior rooms. YEAR 6 CYCLE SAFETY REMINDER / MEA MAUMAHARA MŌ TE HAUMARU PAHIKARA
A reminder that the Christchurch City Council’s Cycle Safety team will be working with our Year 6 students next Monday, 15 June.
Students are asked to bring the following items for the Cycle Safe Programme:

• Bike and helmet (if they own one)
• Warm jacket or rain jacket – please dress for the colder weather
• Any medication they may need (e.g. inhaler, EpiPen etc.)
• Warm gloves
• Extra food for energy
• Drink bottle

Students who bring their bikes to school should leave them in the bike shed at the start of the day. The Cycle Safety team will collect the bikes when they are needed.
